On Wednesday the Sagecocks were again on the road, traveling to
Thousand Oaks to face Cal Lutheran University. Twice in the
first half the Sagehcocks surged out to seven-point margins, but
the Kingsmen answered each run and the half ended with Cal Lu
holding onto a 31-30 lead.
The teams traded the lead throughout the second half, and with 47
seconds to play, Cal Lu had the ball and a 66-65 lead. The
Sagecocks failed to secure the rebound on the Cal Lu missed attempt
with 17 seconds to play and were forced to foul with 12 seconds
remaining. Cal Lu missed the front end of the one-and-one but
forced the Hens into a timeout with 2.4 seconds to play. Off
the sideline out of bounds, Adam Chaimowitz broke free in the
corner and let a jumper fly as the buzzer sounded. His
three-pointer caught the net for a 68-66 Pomona-Pitzer victory.
Sexton led the Sagecocks with 20 pts and eight rebounds, while
Chaimowitz finished with 18 points on 7-8 shooting; senior David
Liss chipped in with 11 points. Pomona-Pitzer connected on
52% of their field goal attempts while holding Cal LU to 44% from
the field. The win pushed the Hens to 3-1 in conference.
