RICHARDSON, TX. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team advanced to the next round of the NCAA Tournament after their 5-1 win over Trinity (Tx.) on Saturday afternoon at the UTD Tennis Courts.
The Sagehens won two of the three doubles matches against the Tigers, but Trinity got their sole point of the afternoon at #1 doubles as Nina Ye and Lauren Rha fell 8-5. The Sagehens finished doubles with wins at #2 and #3 doubles. Marissa Markey and Angie Zhou came away with an 8-5 win while Georgia Ryan and Janie Marcus also took an 8-5 win to put the Sagehens up 2-1 heading into singles play.
Needing three wins at singles to clinch, the Sagehens started with a quick 6-1, 6-0 at Marcus won her match at #6 singles over Ella Cummings. Rha also doubled her wins on the day with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Ellie Hughes at #5 singles while Ryan won her match at #2 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Olivia Kim to send the Sagehens through to the next round of the NCAA Tournament against CMS.
Pomona-Pitzer and CMS will meet in the NCAA Tournament tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 p.m. (CDT).
