CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team defeated SCIAC foe Redlands 7-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improve to 10-5 overall and 4-0 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens got out to a 3-0 lead after they swept the doubles matches over the Bulldogs. Lauren Rha and Nina Ye won at #1 doubles 8-4 while Angie Zhou and Marissa Markey took an 8-1 win at #2 doubles and Janie Marcus and Samantha Moore-Thomson finished the sweep at #3 doubles with an 8-2 victory.
Zhou continued her solid play at #1 singles this season with a quick 6-2, 6-0 win while Moore-Thomson also made quick work of her opponent with a 6-1, 6-1 victory to give the Sagehens their five points for the win.
Markey also won her singles match in straight sets with a 6-3, 7-5 win with Marcus going into a third set for the 4-6, 6-3, 10-3 win at #4 singles.
Redlands was able to grab two singles wins, both in three sets, as Georgia Ryan fell at #2 singles 4-6, 6-4, 4-10 and Amelia Poor at #3 singles by the scores of 3-6, 7-5, 14-12.
