CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team defeated SCIAC opponent Chapman 8-1 on Friday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 9-5 overall and 3-0 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens got out to a 3-0 start after they took all three of the doubles matches to start the day. Angie Zhou and Marissa Markey won their match at #1 doubles 8-3 while Janie Marcus and Samantha Moore-Thomson followed with an 8-1 win at #2 doubles. Pomona-Pitzer completed the doubles sweep with a win at #3 doubles as Rachel Homan and Nina Ye won 8-4.
Taking a 3-0 lead into singles, the Sagehens needed just two matches to earn the win. Zhou lost only one game in her win at #1 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory while Lauren Rha didn't lose a single game with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #2.
Amelia Poor completed her first set 6-0 while her opponent retired in the second set to earn the win. Marcus and Markey went on to win their singles matches at #4 and #5 singles as Marcus won back-to-back tiebreaker sets 7-6, 7-6 and Markey won 6-2, 6-0.
