CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team earned a trip to the SCIAC Tournament Final after their 5-0 win over Redlands in the SCIAC Semifinals on Friday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens will move on to the SCIAC Tournament Championship against CMS on Saturday.
The Sagehens battled throughout the doubles competition but ended up coming out with all three wins. Samantha Moore-Thomson and Janie Marcus breezed through their match at the #3 position with an 8-1 win, but the Sagehens had to fight to earn the other two points for doubles. Marissa Markey and Angie Zhou battled back to come away with an 8-5 win while Lauren Rha and Nina Ye found themselves down early on in the match but rallied to force a tiebreaker where they came away with an 8-7 win to take a 3-0 lead into singles.
The Sagehens needed only two more wins to clinch and found those victories at the #5 and #6 singles spots. Markey doubled up on her wins after she only dropped one game in both of her sets to earn a 6-1, 6-0 victory while the Sagehens went on to clinch at the #5 singles match with Marcus taking a 6-2, 6-2 win to send the Sagehens to the SCIAC Tournament Championship.
