CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team fell to CMS 5-4 in a battle of top-ranked teams for the SCIAC Regular Season Championship on Saturday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.

Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 12-7 overall and suffer their first SCIAC loss at 6-1.  The Sagehens finish the regular season in second place heading into the SCIAC Postseason Tournament.

CMS held the advantage through doubles after they took two of the three matches to start the day. The Athenas won at #1 doubles as Chulani and Batoshvili defeated Angie Zhou and Marissa Markey 8-1 and CMS also won at #3 with Eisenman and Brissett beating Janie Marcus and Samantha Moore-Thomson 8-5.   The Sagehens did manage to take one point out of doubles play with Nina Ye and Alex Coleman earning a big 8-7 win to give the Sagehens a point down 2-1 heading into singles.

Pomona-Pitzer quickly got the score back to even as Zhou continued her dominance at the #1 singles spot with a 6-3, 6-2 win. The Sagehens also took wins at #4 singles with Amelia Poor winning a marathon match 7-6, 6-7, 10-4 and Marcus with another three-set win at #5 singles 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

The Athenas were able to win the match after they took victories at #2, #3, and #6 singles.  Eisenman won in straight sets over Markey 7-6, 6-3 at #6 singles and tiebreaker wins as well in the first set of both the #2 and #3 singles matches set the Athenas up for the win as they won 7-6, 6-4 at #2 singles and 7-6, 6-1 at #3 singles to clinch the regular season championship over the Sagehens.

Up Next: The Sagehens will enter the SCIAC Postseason Tournament as the No. 2 seed and will host the Semifinal against the No. 4 seed.
