Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team opened up its three-game series against Cal Lutheran with a 3-2 loss at home on Friday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 15-16 overall and 6-9 in SCIAC play.
JC Ng and Isaac Kim had two hits each while Nate Jakobs, Caleb Millikan, Jimmy Legg, and David Bedrosian each picked up one in the loss. Harry Deliyannis got the Friday start for the Sagehens and threw a very winnable outing with seven complete, three runs surrendered and 11 strikeouts.
Cal Lutheran struck first with a big swing of the bat to get out to a 2-0 lead with a two-run homer in the top of the second inning.
The Sagehens back with a run in the bottom of the fifth as Jakobs tripled to the wall. The Sagehens tried to get two home during the Jakobs triple but a good relay by the Kingsmen defense threw out the runner at the plate as the Kingsmen stayed on top 2-1.
The Kingsmen got a gift in the top of the seventh as a wild pitch took a huge deflection off of the catcher and allowed the run to score from second base as Cal Lutheran extended its lead to 3-1 late in the ballgame.
Pomona-Pitzer cut the deficit down to one after Bedrosian hit a solo shot in the bottom of the ninth, but the Sagehens couldn't get the tying run home as the Kingsmen stole game one at Alumni Field.
