LOS ANGELES, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team continued their dominant run of play within the SCIAC with a 9-0 win over Occidental on Tuesday afternoon at the McKinnon Tennis Center.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improve to 11-5 overall and 5-0 in conference play.
The Sagehens started taking all three of the doubles matches against the Tigers. Janie Marcus and Samantha Moore-Thomson secured an easy 8-1 victory over Alexis Matabuena and Mathilde Depery in the #2 doubles match, while Rachel Homan and Rachel Roxarzade won 8-5 against Emma Silber and Lillian Lin in the #3 doubles match. The Sagehens ended with all three wins but was contested at the #1 spot as Angie Zhou and Marissa Markey narrowly defeated Andei Fukushige and Sarah Fleming 8-7 to take a 3-0 lead into singles.
The Sagehens continued their dominance into the singles matches after Angie Zhou won convincingly against Andei Fukushige 6-1, 6-0 in the first singles match. Georgia Ryan had a tough start but came back strong, defeating Sarah Fleming 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 in the second singles match. Janie Marcus also had a quick win against Alexis Matabuena, after she only lost one game winning 6-0, 6-1 in the third singles match.
Marissa Markey, Sammy Moore-Thomson, and Rachel Homan also won their respective matches against Julia Chun, Emma Silber, and Mathilde Depery in straight sets as Markey took a 6-1, 6-3 win, Moore-Thomson won 6-1, 6-3 and Homan won 6-1, 6-0.
