Box Score 2 PASADENA, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team split their road doubleheader against SCIAC opponent Caltech with a 5-1 loss and a 17-4 win on Saturday afternoon at North Field.
Season Impact: With the split, the Sagehens move to 15-12 overall and 6-5 in SCIAC play.
Pomona-Pitzer 1, Caltech 5
The Sagehens only registered three hits in game one coming from JC Ng, Caleb Millikan and Tanner DeGrazia with DeGrazia earning the only RBI with a solo home run. Harry Deliyannis got the ball in game one and went five innings with eight hits and gave up five runs. Ethan Collins came out of the pen for three innings of scoreless relief work as well.
Caltech scored one run in each of the first three innings to jump out to an early 3-0 lead. The Beavers went on to add one more in the fifth off of a home run and then another in the sixth as they took a 5-0 lead over the Sagehens.
The bats couldn't get going for the Sagehens in game one, but DeGrazia managed to put one on the board with solo shot in the top of the seventh. Caltech continued to shut down the Sagehen bats as they went scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings to drop game one on the road.
Pomona-Pitzer 17, Caltech 4
The Sagehens were led by Isaac Kim who went 3-5 with five RBI's in the win. JC Ng also had a three-hit game going 3-5 while Nate Jakobs, Tanner DeGrazia, Caleb Millikan, and William Kinney had two hits each and Jimmy Legg had one. Eamon Woods got the start and went three innings of work before being relieved by Jake Albro who pitched one inning, followed by Wade Lawson and Eric Prough.
The Sagehens jumped out to a lead without registering a hit against the Beavers as Legg got on and eventually scored on a wild pitch to allow Pomona-Pitzer to start with a 1-0 lead.
Pomona-Pitzer added to its lead with three runs in the third inning. The first of which came off of passed ball while Jakobs and Millikan earned RBI's in the inning to extend the lead to 4-0. Ng came back with a two-run single in the Sagehens' next at-bats to push their lead to 6-0 before the Beavers got their offense going in the bottom half of the inning with a three-run fourth to cut the lead down to 6-3.
Kinney notched an RBI single in the fifth and Kim blew the game wide open in the sixth with a three-run homer to make it 10-3 in favor of Pomona-Pitzer. The Sagehens went on to hang up crooked numbers in the seventh and eighth innings after RBI's from Kim DeGrazia and Millikan in the seventh and RBI's from DeGrazia, Kim, Jakobs and Millikan in the eighth gave the Sagehens a run-rule win over the Beavers in game two.
