Sagehens Swept By Stags

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team lost the series to SCIAC rival CMS after a 6-5 and a 16-4 loss in the doubleheader at Alumni Field.

Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 7-7 overall and 1-4 in SCIAC play.

Game 1

The Sagehens were led by Caleb Millikan who went 3-5 in the loss. JC Ng and Jacob Fleming went 2-4 while Nate Jakobs, Isaac Kim, Matthew Nishimura and Jack Colton had one hit.

CMS once again got out to an early lead in game two of their three-game series with Pomona-Pitzer. The Stags took advantage of runners on in the first with an RBI double and a sacrifice fly to take a 2-0 lead.  The Stags tacked on one more in the top of the second to take a 3-0 lead before the Sagehens bats got going in the bottom half of the inning after Nishimura singled home Bedrosian to make it 3-1.

Pomona-Pitzer came back to tie the game at 3-3 after a two-RBI single by Fleming, but the Stags answered back  in the top of the fifth with an RBI single of their own to reclaim the lead at 4-3.

Sagehens were 2-13 with runners in scoring position and decided to call for a pinch hitter with runners on first and third. Jack Colton answered the call and lined a base hit up the middle to tie the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the eighth.

After a JC Ng walk, the Stags loaded the bases for Donovan Crook with the go-ahead run on third. The Stags reliever went on to walk in the go-ahead run to give the Sagehens a 5-4 lead.

After facing their first deficit of the game, CMS responded with an RBI single to tie the game at 5-5 and loaded the bases themselves with a chance to take the lead.  The Stags got the go-ahead run off of a wild pitch and that was enough to steal game one of the doubleheader from the Sagehens.

Game 2

The Sagehens were led by Donovan Crook, William Kinney and Peter Savas who all had two hits in the loss.

For the third-straight game, the Stags scored in their first at-bats as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead after an RBI double and a two-run homer.  The Stags continued to pile on runs with the home runs in three innings and took a 7-0 lead.  CMS stretched the lead to 9-0 in the fourth before the Sagehens got their first runs of the game off of a three-run homer by David Bedrosian to cut into the lead.  Isaac Kim added to the total with a sacrifice fly to make it 9-4 after four innings of play.

After making a dent in the lead, the Stags put the Sagehens away with a seven-run eighth inning that called the game short as the Stags swept the Sagehens in the regular season series.

Up Next: The Sagehens will next host non-conference opponent Whitman on Sunday, March 5th at 11:00 a.m.
