CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team started off with a 10-3 win in game one of their three-game SCIAC series against Caltech on Friday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improve to 14-11 overall and 5-4 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehens were led by Nate Jakobs who went 2-5 with five RBI and a home run as well in the win. JC Ng and Jack Colton also had multi-hit games going 2-3 while Jimmy Legg, Jackson Fleming, and Isaac Kim all had a hit as well. Jake Hilton got the ball and picked up the win with 5.2 innings of work with three runs surrendered and nine strikeouts. Weston Janavs and Eddie Rosemont came in to relieve Hilton to hang on to the lead. 

The Sagehens wasted no time against the Beavers as Jakobs got Pomona-Pitzer on the board in the first inning with a two-run blast to right field to allow the Sagehens to play from in front.

Pomona-Pitzer added to its lead in the bottom of the second with a sacrifice fly from Legg and Jakobs again produced runs with a bases loaded single that plated two more to extend the lead to 5-0. During his third time up in the game, Jakobs continued his streak of RBI's with a ground out that scored a runner on third to push the lead up to 6-0 after four innings of play.

The Sagehens loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth as they looked to add on more runs against the Beavers.  The first run of the inning came by way of a base loaded walk followed by a wild pitch to make the score 8-0. Ng followed with a two-run single through the right side to put the Sagehens up double digits at 10-0 over Caltech.

The Beavers came back with a bases clearing three-run double in the top of the sixth to avoid the seven-inning run rule but the Sagehens still managed to beat the Beavers handedly at home.
