CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team returned to SCIAC play with a 9-0 sweep over SCIAC opponent Caltech on Tuesday night at the Pauley Tennis Courts.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens took all three doubles matches to start the night against the Beavers. Nina Ye and Lauren Rha only dropped one game in their win at #1 doubles 8-1 while #2 doubles followed as Angie Zhou and Marissa Markey earned an 8-2 win. Janie Marcuse and Amelia Poor combined for a win at #3 doubles with an 8-3 victory to give the Sagehens a 3-0 start heading into singles play.
Pomona-Pitzer kept its momentum going into the singles matches as Zhou didn't lose a single game in her #1 match with scores of 6-0, 6-0. Ye went into a third set at #2 singles but came out victorious with a 2-6, 6-1, 10-3 win.
Rha and Poor each lost one game in their two sets as Rha won 6-0, 6-1 at #3 singles and Poor won her match 6-1, 6-0 at #4 singles. Marcus earned a win at #5 singles 6-1, 6-1 while Markey finished the sweep at the #6 spot with a 6-3, 6-4 win.
