CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team defeated Williams 6-3 on Friday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 7-4 overall and earned their third-straight win over a NESCAC opponent.
The Sagehens got out to a good start after they won all three of the doubles matches against the Ephs. Nina Ye and Lauren Rha got the Sagehens out with a win at #1 doubles 8-3 followed by an 8-5 win from Angie Zhou and Marissa Markey at #2 and an 8-3 win from Samantha Moore-Thomson and Janie Marcus at the third doubles to take all three points heading into singles play.
Each team came away with three singles wins with the Sagehens only needing two for the clinch.
The Sagehens earned wins at #1, #4, and #6. Rha got the Sagehens going with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Ananya Aggarwal and then Zhou clinched the match at #1 after she defeated Kat Orgielewicz 6-4, 6-4. The Sagehens also got a win at #6 singles after Marcus won a three-set thriller 6-7, 6-0, 11-9.
Williams also earned wins at three courts as Yuu Ishikawa of Williams won the second singles match with a score of 6-1, 6-4 against Nina Ye and the Ephs got another win as Mia Thomann of Williams defeated Georgia Ryan with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. The only other win of the day for Williams was at the #5 singles position as Jane Ladaga defeated Amelia Poor 6-3, 6-3.
