Box Score LOS ANGELES, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team returned to SCIAC play with a 9-0 win over Occidental in game one of their three-game conference series on Friday afternoon at Anderson Field.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 11-11 overall and 2-4 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by Jimmy Legg who went 3-4 in the win with an RBI and a run scored. Donovan Crook and Isaac Kim both registered two-hit performances while Jack Colton, Nate Jakobs, Jackson Fleming, and Caleb Millikan had one each. Jake Hilton got the ball for game one of the series and pitched seven scoreless innings with five hits scattered and 11 strikeouts. Landon Carter came in to relieve the final three innings of the game with three hitless innings.
Pomona-Pitzer jumped ahead early with a run in the second inning as Legg doubled home Colton to make it 1-0. The Sagehens came back with two more runs in the top of the third as Kim doubled home a run and Colton with a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 3-0.
After Hilton got the Sagehens through six scoreless innings, the offense picked up again with a Colton solo shot in the sixth and a Kim two-run blast in the seventh to extend the lead to 6-0.
Pomona-Pitzer then added three more in the ninth as Jakobs made it three home runs on the night with a three-run shot to center to put an exclamation point on their first game back into conference play.
