CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team defeated Middlebury 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 6-4 overall.
Pomona-Pitzer got the match started by taking all three doubles matches against the Panthers. Nina Ye and Lauren Rha started out with an 8-4 win while Samantha Moore-Thomson and Janie Marcus pulled out an 8-5 victory. The #2 doubles of Angie Zhou and Marissa Markey went into a tiebreaker, but the Sagehens were able to come away with an 8-7 win to take a 3-0 lead into singles.
The Sagehens needed just two wins to clinch against the Panthers and got them at the #1 and #2 matches. Middlebury was able to win two matches as Nathalie Van Derreis defeated Rha 6-2, 6-0 and Markey fell in her singles match at #6, 6-3, 6-2.
Zhou got the Sagehens within one point of the win after she flew through her singles match without losing a game for the 6-0, 6-0 win and Ye clinched with her win at #2, 6-3, 6-2 as the Sagehens came away with a big win over Middlebury.
