Box Score 2 CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team won the series over Tufts with a doubleheader win at home with a 5-1 and a 10-4 win on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Season Impact: With the wins, the Sagehens move to 10-11 overall this season.
Pomona-Pitzer 5, Tufts 1 (7 Innings)
The Sagehens had three hitters go 2-3 in the win with JC Ng, Isaac Kim, and Jackson Fleming all notching multi-hit games. Harry Deliyannis picked up the win with six innings and only gave up one run with five strikeouts while Ben Cohen closed the game with one inning of scoreless work out of the pen.
The Sagehens found some production in the lineup early in the game from the bottom half of the order as George Nahabedian made the most of his first start of the year with a two-run single down the left field line to get the Sagehens on top 2-0 over the Jumbos. Ng kept the inning going for the Sagehens with another two-run single and Kim went on to single home Ng to extend the lead to 5-0 after two innings of play.
That was all the offense that the Sagehens needed in game one as Tufts only manufactured one run in the top of the sixth from a sacrifice fly as the Sagehens looked for a series winner in the rubber game.
Pomona-Pitzer 10, Tufts 4
The Sagehens were led by Caleb Millikan who went 2-3 with three runs scored. Isaac Kim had a three RBI game while Nate Jakobs and Jack Colton also had two RBI. Ethan Collins got the start and went four innings with three runs surrendered and two K's, Eamonn Woods picked up the win out of the pen with three innings of work, and Eric Prough finished the game with two innings.
The Sagehens got ahead early again in game two of the doubleheader as Jakobs singled home Ng in the first and Kim grounded out to bring in another run to play from in front 2-0.
The Jumbos took the lead in the third after a sacrifice fly and a two-run single made it 3-2 in favor of Tufts.
The Sagehens came back in their next at-bats to tie the game at 3-3 after a Kim sac fly, but Tufts answered again in the fifth to reclaim the lead at 4-3.
Pomona-Pitzer broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth after they plated four runs to take the lead back. The Sagehens loaded the bases with no outs in the inning and a hit by pitch, walk and an error made it 7-4 Pomona-Pitzer heading into the sixth.
The Sagehens went on and added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth off of a Jack Colton single and Kim doubled in the bottom of the eighth to add the 10th run of the game as the Sagehens snapped their cold streak with a much-needed doubleheader victory.
