CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team fell to Division I opponent UC San Diego 5-2 on Wednesday night at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
The Sagehens fell behind after the doubles competition with UCSD coming away with wins at all three matches, but using the Division I format, only picked up one point for doubles.
Ella Pachl and Grace Gamal won their match 6-4 against Nina Ye and Lauren Rha, Kelly Leung and Naomi Nguyen won 6-3 against Angie Zhou and Marissa Markey, and Rachel Wagner and Katelyn Vu took a close 7-6, 7-2 victory over Amelia Poor and Samantha Moore-Thomson.
In singles play, the Tritons clinched the win after taking four of the six matches. Kelly Leung won 6-2, 6-2 against Nina Ye, Ella Pachl came out on top in a close match against Angie Zhou 5-7, 6-3, 6-1, Grace Gamal won 7-6, 6-3 against Lauren Rha, and Sophie Pearson won 7-6, 6-0 against Janie Marcus.
The Sagehens managed to grab two victories in singles play, with Patria Aziz winning 6-2, 6-2 against Naomi Nguyen, and Amelia Poor taking a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Rachel Wagner.
