Sagehens Split Doubleheader At Redlands

REDLANDS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team split their makeup doubleheader against SCIAC opponent Redlands with a 4-1 loss and a 4-3 win on Sunday afternoon at The Yard.

Season Impact: with the split, the Sagehens move to 7-4 overall and start 1-1 in SCIAC play.

Game 1

The middle of the Sagehens' lineup all went 2-4 with Nate Jakobs, Donovan Crook, Caleb Millikan, and Jackson Fleming all having multi-hit games while JC Ng and David Bedrosian each added a hit in the loss.  The sole run of the game for the Sagehens came off of Ng's solo home run with the Sagehens going 2-1 with runners in scoring position including 0-4 with the bases loaded. Jake Hilton suffered his first loss of the season after he went six innings and gave up three runs on five hits and seven strikeouts.

Redlands got the lead in the bottom of the fourth after a single to center field plated two runs for the Bulldogs for the early lead. Redlands added another RBI single in their next at-bats while it took the Sagehens until the top of the seventh to plate a run with a solo shot from Ng to cut into the lead at 3-1 with two innings to play.

The Bulldogs added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth to push the deficit to three runs with the Sagehens coming to their last at-bats.

Pomona-Pitzer had a chance to tie or take the lead in the bottom of the ninth after they loaded the bases but the Redlands closer got Bedrosian to pop up on the infield as the Bulldogs took game one of the series.

Game 2

The Sagehens were led by Ng, Jakobs and Millikan who all had two hits in the win while Millikan contributed with a go-ahead home run in the ninth. Hannoh Seo went 5.2 innings in the start and surrendered two runs with seven strikeouts in the no-decision. Eric Prough came on in relief and pitched 1.1 innings while Eamonn Woods earned the win with two innings pitched.

Pomona-Pitzer got ahead early after Fleming put the Sagehens up with an RBI single in the top of the second. The Bulldogs responded in bottom half of the inning with an RBI single and another run off of a fielder's choice to take a 2-1 lead, but the Sageehns tied the game in the top of the third from a fielder's choice of their own to make it 2-2.

The Bulldogs jumped ahead in the bottom of the eighth off of a wild pitch and forced the Sagehens to tie or take the lead in their final at-bats.  The Sagehens managed to get a runner on third and ended up scoring the tying run off of a wild pitch, but Millikan put the Sagehens on top with a solo home run in the top of the ninth to take a 4-3 lead. The Bulldogs went 1,2,3 in the ninth as the Sagehens and Bulldogs split the doubleheader at the Yard.

Up Next: The Sagehens will now host Redlands for the single-game makeup on Monday at 2:00 p.m.
