CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's tennis team came away with a 6-1 victory over Cal State LA on Friday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 2-2 overall.
The Sagehens got out to a good start after they took the doubles matches earning one point following the Division 1 format in today's match. Marissa Markey and Angie Zhou defeated Sarah Olmos and Sakura Kurokawa with a score of 8-2 in the #1 doubles match. In the #2 doubles match, Nina Ye and Alex Coleman were leading Hideka Takamura and Alexandra Hincu with a score of 7-1. Finally, Samantha Moore-Thomson and Amelia Poor clinched doubles against Courtlyn Lam and Savaughna Mayo with a score of 8-0 in the #3 doubles match.
Moving on to the singles matches, the Sagehens continued their strong performance. In the #2 singles match, Nina Ye beat Sakura Kurokawa with a score of 6-3, 5-7, 10-7. Lauren Rha won the #3 singles match against Alexandra Hincu with a score of 6-3, 6-1. Amelia Poor defeated Hideka Takamura with a score of 6-3, 6-1 in the #4 singles match. In the #5 singles match, Janie Marcus won against Lea Rolland with a score of 6-0, 6-0. Finally, in the #6 singles match, the Golden Eagles' Savaughna Mayo put up a strong fight but ultimately lost to Marissa Markey of Pomona-Pitzer with a score of 5-7, 3-6.
