Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team dropped their first series of the year with a 7-5 loss in game three of their three-game series with non-conference opponent Willamette on Sunday morning at Alumni Field.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens drop the series and fall to 4-2 overall on the season.
The Sagehens were led by Nate Jakobs who turned out the only two-hit performance going 2-4 with two runs scored. JC Ng, Isaac Kim, Caleb Millikan, Jackson Fleming, Donovan Crook, Matthew Nishimura, and William Kinney all also earned one base knock apiece in the loss.
Hannoh Seo got the start in the final game of the three-game series and pitched five scoreless innings but ended up running into trouble in the sixth with four runs charged to the starter in the no-decision. Jake Albro came in relief and earned the loss while Weston Janavs and Eddie Rosemont also made appearances out of the pen.
Pomona-Pitzer got the scoring going in the bottom of the third after Kinnney got aboard with a bunt down the third base line and then swiped second to get into scoring position. Kim went on to bring in Kinney on an RBI single up the middle and Pomona-Pitzer went on to add two more after a two-RBI double by Millikan extended the lead to 3-0.
Seo's scoreless outing ended in the top of the sixth after an RBI single drove in the first run of the day for Willamette to make it 3-1. The Bearcats brought it back even at 3-3 with a two-RBI single into right field and went on to take the lead with another RBI single to make it 4-3.
The Sagehens responded in the bottom of the sixth with two more runs after Millikan brought home Jakobs and Nishimura doubled in Fleming to put the Sagehens back on top at 5-4, but Willamette put up a crooked number for the second-straight inning after they plated three runs off of an RBI single and a two-RBI double to take a 7-5 lead.
The Bearcats bullpen went on to throw three scoreless frames in the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings to hand the Sagehens their second loss of the season.
