Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team fell in game one to CMS 18-12 on Friday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens drop to 26-9 overall and 14-8 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by Jimmy Legg who went a perfect 4-4 in the loss. Jack Damelio and JC Ng each tallied three hits in the game while Nate Jakobs and Ryan Nishi also had multi-hit games with two each.
The Sagehens got out to a good start in the bottom of the first after they plated two runs from Issac Kim and Nate Jakobs to take a 2-0 lead.
CMS had a huge second inning to take the lead over the Sagehens with eight runs. The Stags got one home on a bases loaded walk and then after two outs an error by the Sagehen defense cleared the bases to add three more. CMS went on to add four more to their total before the Sagehens got out of the top of the second down 8-2.
Pomona-Pitzer got one back in bottom of the third after a Ryan Nishi double to cut the lead down to 8-3, but the Stags came back with five runs in the top of the fifth to extend the lead to 13-3.
The Sagehens battled back again with a two-RBI double by JC Ng and then an error gave the Sagehens two more to cut the lead down to 13-7 in the bottom of the sixth, but CMS responded again with two runs in the top of the seventh to push the lead back up to 15-7.
More offense for Pomona-Pitzer in the bottom half of the inning after a Kade Morihara homer down the right field line and a sacrifice fly by Ng, but the Stags would again answer the bell and scored three in the top of the eighth to go up 18-9.
Pomona-Pitzer continued to put up runs in the bottom of the ninth, but it wasn't enough as the Sagehens fell to CMS at home.
