Box Score ORANGE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team fell to Cal Lutheran 18-11 in the SCIAC Tournament Championship on Sunday afternoon at Hart Park.
The Sagehens were led by JC Ng who went 2-6 with three RBI's in the loss. Nate Jakobs and Jack Damelio also tallied two hits for the Sagehens as well.
The Sagehens jumped ahead in the bottom of the second inning after Bedrosian blasted a solo shot to put Pomona-Pitzer up 1-0. After surrendering the early lead, the Kingsmen responded in the top of the third with a bases load sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1-1.
Pomona-Pitzer reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the third after back-to-back errors by the Kingsmen gave two runs to the Sagehens to go ahead 3-1. The Sagehens took advantage of the additional baserunners as Nate Jakobs singled up the middle to bring home Kevin Lo to extend the lead to 4-1 heading into the fourth.
The Sagehens returned the favor after Cal Lutheran got a run home off of an error from a pickoff attempt to cut the lead down to 4-2 and then the Kingsmen came back to tie the game with a two-run homer to left field to make it all even at 4-4. Cal Lutheran continued to build their lead in the fourth after another error by the Sagehens prolonged the inning and the Kingsmen capitalized with a three-run homerun to left field to take a 7-4 lead over the Sagehens.
Cal Lutheran homered again in their next at-bats to make it 9-4 before the Sagehens got one back in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead down to 9-5.
The Kingsmen continued their offense at the plate as they plated four runs in the top of the seventh to break the game open at 13-5. The Sagehens got those four runs back in the bottom of the seventh after an RBI by Jimmy Legg and a three-run homer by Ng to get it back within four runs at 13-9.
Cal Lutheran answered in the eighth and ninth innings to make it 18-9 with the Sagehens down to their last at-bats. Pomona-Pitzer got two runs across the plate in the ninth off of a wild pitch and an RBI single by Kevin Lo, but the Kingsmen were able to hold on for the SCIAC Tournament Championship.
The Sagehens will await the results of the NCAA Selection committee to see if they receive an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament.
