Box Score ORANGE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Baseball team advanced to the SCIAC Tournament Championship after their 6-4 win over La Verne on Saturday night at Hart Park.
With the win, the Sagehens advance to the SCIAC Championship against Cal Lutheran, but will need to beat the Kingsmen twice to earn the SCIAC Tournament Championship.
The Sagehens were led by David Bedrosian, who went 3-5 in the win while Nate Jakobs went 2-4 with three RBI's and Jimmy Legg who went 2-3 with two runs scored. Eamon Woods got the start for the Sagehens and went four innings with just two runs surrendered but Joe Williams picked up the win with five innings pitched, two runs given up and nine strikeouts.
La Verne got their runs off of Woods early in the game with two in the bottom of the first to jump out to an early 2-0 lead. The Sagehens tied the game in the third after two runs came in off of an Isaac Kim double and the Sagehens went on to take the lead later in the inning after Jakobs singled home Kim to put Pomona-Pitzer up 3-2.
The Leopards battled back to reclaim the lead in the bottom of the fifth after an RBI single and a wild pitch, but the Sagehens responded in the top of the eighth as Jakobs doubled off the center field wall to bring home Bedrosian and Kevin Lo to take a 5-4 lead.
Pomona-Pitzer added an insurance run in the top of the ninth after the La Verne defense committed an error that plated Legg to give Williams a two-run lead at 6-4 heading into the bottom of the ninth.
La Verne brought the winning run to the plate, but Williams slammed the door shut as the Sagehens punched their ticket to the SCIAC Tournament Championship.
Up Next: The Sagehens will need two wins against Cal Lutheran to earn the SCIAC Title with the first of potentially two games will start tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.
