CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 2 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team defeated SCIAC opponent Chapman 8-1 on Friday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens push their winning streak to 10 games and improve to 14-1 overall and 2-0 in SCIAC play.
Pomona-Pitzer took two doubles to start out the match with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Marissa Markey and Angie Zhou started at No. 1 doubles with an 8-1 win and Nina Ye and Maria Lyven followed with an 8-3 win at No. 2 to put the Sagehens up 2-1 heading into singles.
The Sagehens went on to sweep the singles matches all in two sets. Lyven doubled up on her wins with a dominate singles win at No. 1 by the scores of 6-1, 6-2 while Zhou and Janie Marcus also won by the scores of 6-1, 6-2 at Singles No. 2 and 4.
Markey followed suit with a comfortable win at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-4 while the Sagehens ended the day with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 as Georgia Ryan earned a 6-3, 6-0 win and Amelia Poor taking a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
