Sagehens Drop Doubleheader To Chapman

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 11 Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team dropped their doubleheader against No. 19 Chapman 15-10 and 6-2 on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Season Impact: With the losses, the Sagehens fall to 26-8 overall and 14-7 in SCIAC play.

Pomona-Pitzer 10, Chapman 15

The Sagehens were led by JC Ng and Isaac Kim who each tallied two hits in the loss. Jake Hilton got the start for the Sagehens and went 3.2 inning before getting relieved by Eric Prough and Gabe Garcia. Joe Williams ended up with the loss for the Sagehens while Stephen Kwak got 0.2 innings of relief work.

Big offense in game one of the doubleheader but it was Chapman who got out to an early lead over the Sagehens. The Panthers plated six runs in the first four innings before the Sagehens got on the board with three runs in the bottom of the fourth via RBI's from Kevin Lo and David Bedrosian along with a wild pitch to cut into the lead at 6-3.

Chapman kept their lead over the Sagehens for the next few innings and extended it by three after back-to-back doubles and an RBI single to take a 9-3 lead and added one more in the top of the seventh by a solo homerun to go up 10-3.

The Sagehens responded with one run off the bat of Kim with a solo homerun of his own to center field to trail 10-4 and a huge eighth inning by the Sagehens that featured a game-tying grandslam by Lo even the game at 10-10 heading into the ninth.

After letting the Sagehens back into the game, the Panthers added three runs in the top of the ninth to reclaim the lead over the Sagehens as the comeback fell just short for Pomona-Pitzer in game one of the doubleheader.

Pomona-Pitzer 2, Chapman 6

The Sagehens were led by Lo who went 3-5 in the loss while Ng, Ryan Nishi and Caleb Millikan all contributed two hits as well. Eamon Woods got the ball in game two of the doubleheader and went 4.2 inning before getting pulled for reliever Jake Albro.  Albro picked up the loss with 1.2 innings pitched while Ben Cohen and Eddie Rosemont finished out the game.

Both teams had trouble scoring runs early, but the Panthers broke the 0-0 score in the top of the sixth after a double off of the wall scored the first run of the game to make it 1-0.

The Sagehens responded after they loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth with a Jimmy Legg RBI single up the middle to tie and a JC Ng sacrifice fly to give the Sagehens a 2-1 lead heading into the seventh.

Chapman answered in their next at-bats in a big way after an RBI single to tie the game at 2-2, a three-run homerun followed to put the Panthers up 5-2 in the top of the seventh.  The Panthers added one more after an error by the Sagehens made it 6-2 heading into the bottom of the eighth.

The Sagehens had a chance in the bottom of the ninth with two runners on but Chapman prevented the Sagehens from sneaking out with a game as they took all three in the season series.

Up Next: The Sagehens will next host CMS for Senior Day on Friday, May 6th at 3:00 PM.
