Box Score ORANGE, CA. – The No. 11 Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team fell to No. 19 Chapman 6-4 in game one of their three-game series on Friday afternoon at Hart Park.
Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens fall to 26-6 overall and 14-5 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens had a few batters who went 2-4 on the day as Jack Damelio, David Bedrosian and Jimmy Legg all tallied multi-hit performances in the loss. Harry Deliyannis got the start for the Sagehens in game one of the series against the Panthers and went 6.1 innings with six runs given up and seven strikeouts for his first loss of the season.
The Panthers struck first in the bottom of the first inning after they started off the game with a little small ball after they sacrificed over a runner to set up an RBI single to take a 1-0 advantage.
The Sagehens responded in the top of the third with a two-out RBI up the middle by Bedrosian to even the game at 1-1, but the Panthers added three during the bottom half of the inning with back-to-back RBI doubles to take a 4-1 lead over the Sagehens.
Pomona-Pitzer came battling back in the top of the fifth after Damelio doubled home Caleb Millikan, Legg brought home Damelio on an RBI single, and Isaac Kim doubled in Bedrosian to tie the game at 4-4.
Chapman reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI double and a bases loaded walk to extend their advantage by two runs to 6-4 late in the ballgame.
The Sagehens had a chance late in the game with the go-ahead run at the plate but were unable to keep the game going as the Sagehens fell to the Panthers in game one of the series.
