CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 2 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team defeated SCIAC opponent Caltech 9-0 on Friday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 16-1 overall and 4-0 in SCIAC play.
Pomona-Pitzer started by taking all three doubles matches over the Beavers. Maria Lyven and Nina Ye got the sweep going with an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles while Janie Marcus and Georgia Ryan earned an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. The Sagehens ended doubles with a win at No. 2 as Marissa Markey and Angie Zhou defeated their opponents 8-5.
The Sagehens took all 6 singles matches without entering a third set. Lyven doubled up on her wins at No. 1 with a 6-4, 6-2 win while her doubles partner Ye followed at No. 2 with a 6-4, 6-3 victory. Zhou and Markey both earned their singles wins as Zhou took a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 and Markey took care of her singles opponent 6-3, 6-3.
The Sagehens ended the sweep with wins at No. 5 and No. 6. Marcus won at No. 5 by the scores of 6-4, 6-4 and Alicia Camona Cornejo earned the largest margin of victory in all the matches with a 6-2, 6-0 win.
