Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team started out their three-game SCIAC series with an 8-1 win over Cal Lutheran on Friday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 20-3 overall and 8-2 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by Isaac Kim and Caleb Millikan who each went 3-4 in the win while Kim added two runs scored and two RBI's and Millikan drove in one runner. Jc Ng, Jackson Fleming, Nate Jakobs and Kevin Lo all registered multi-hit games as well. Harry Deliyannis got the start on the mound and stayed perfect at 6-0 on the year after he went 7.1 innings and gave up five hits and one run with seven strikeouts. Eric Prough came in for 1.2 innings of relief work to close the game out.
The Sagehens got on the board early with two runs in the bottom of the first after Jack Damelio connected with a two-run RBI single to put the Sagehens on top 2-0. Kim added one more for the Sagehens in the bottom of the second off of an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0 and the Sagehens went on to add three more in the bottom of the fourth with RBI's from Kim, Millikan and Lo to push the lead to 6-0 after four innings of play.
Cal Lutheran got their first run of the game in the top of the fifth, but the Sagehens got out of trouble with a pickoff play at second to limit the Kingsmen to just one run at 6-1.
Pomona-Pitzer responded with one run each in the bottom of the fifth and sixth inning from an RBI single from Jakobs and a solo shot by Lo to put the Sagehens up big at 8-1.
Cal Lutheran got runners on in the later innings but the Sagehen pitching staff and defense were able to close the game out for the big win at home.
