Nicholasville, KY. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team opened up with a 9-0 win over Kenyon in the first round of the ITA Indoor National Championships on Friday morning at Top Seed Tennis.
The Sagehens started out with all three doubles wins to start their Indoor Championship. The Sagehens got the wins going at No. 1 doubles with Maria Lyven and Nina Ye getting the win, 8-4. The Sagehens went on to sweep the doubles with the team of Angie Zhou and Marissa Markey winning at No. 2 8-3 and the No. 3 team of Janie Marcus and Georgia Ryan capping doubles off with an 8-5 win.
After going up 3-0 after doubles, the Sagehens continued their dominance over Kenyon and took all six singles matches. Lyven doubled up on her wins and only dropped one game after a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. Ye also only dropped one game at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win while Ryan won a flawless single watch at No. 6, 6-0, 6-0. The Sagehens went on to finish out singles as Zhou won her match at No. 3 6-2, 6-3 and Marcus also took a victory at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-2. The final match of the day tested the sweep at No. 4 singles, but Markey was able to hold off her opponent for the 6-4, 7-5 win.
Up Next: The Sagehens will advance to the Semifinals where they will face Chicago on Saturday morning at 1:00 PM EST.
