Box Score 2 CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team completed their first SCIAC sweep with a doubleheader win over Caltech by the scores of 12-2 and 13-3 on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Season Impact: With the sweep, the Sagehens improve to 19-3 and 7-2 in SCIAC play.
Pomona-Pitzer 12, Caltech 2
The Sagehens were led by JC Ng who went 3-4 with three runs scored. David Bedrosian, Nate Jakobs and Caleb Millikan all notched multi-hit games while Jakobs tallied four RBI's and a three-run homer. Brett Super earned the win in game one after he went five innings and gave up two runs off of six hits with seven strikeouts.
The Sagehens did their damage early in the bottom of the first as they plated four runs to start game one. The Beavers kept the innings going with an error that gave the Sagehens their first run of the day and then RBI's from Nate Jakobs and Millikan put the Sagehens up 4-0.
Pomona-Pitzer added one more in the bottom of the second from an RBI from Isaac Kim and two more in the bottom of the fourth with RBI's from Ryan Nishi and Bedrosian before Caltech scored their only runs of the game from a. two-run homer in the top of the fifth to make it 7-2.
The Beavers gave one back to the Sagehens in the bottom of the sixth from a wild pitch and the Sagehens went on to end the game via run rule after a walk-off three-run homer by Jakobs to take game one 12-2.
Pomona-Pitzer 13, Caltech 3
The Sagehens were led by Kim who went 3-4 with three runs scored and two RBI's. Jakobs ended with two hits and another homerun while Jackson Fleming, Millikan and Kevin Lo all tallied two hits as well in the win. Jake Hilton got the start and the win in game two after he went five innings and gave up three runs off four hits and sat down seven batters via the strikeout
The Sagehens jumped out to an early lead after Ng scored on a wild pitch, but the Beavers tied the game in the bottom half after they stole home to even the score at 1-1.
Pomona-Pitzer reclaimed the lead in the second after an RBI single by Lo but the Sagehens broke the game open in the third after they plated eight runs. After a bases loaded walk, the Sagehens put together three-straight RBI singles from Jakobs, Fleming and Millikan to take a 9-1 lead and capped off the inning with a Jimmy Legg sacrifice fly to go up 10-1at the end of the third.
Kim added one more to the total in the bottom of the fourth after a solo shot to left field but the Beavers answered in the fifth with a homer of their own to cut the lead down to 11-3.
Jakobs put the Sagehens over the run rule again in the second game after another two-run homer put the Sagehens up 13-3 to end the series with back-to-back run rules to earn the sweep.
