CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 3 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team defeated No. 16 Bowdoin 8-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 10-1 and have won six=straight matches.
The Sagehens took two of the three doubles matches against Bowdoin with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Maria Lyven and Nina Ye earned a win at No. 1 8-3 while Angie Zhou and Marissa Markey won at No. 2 8-4. The only loss of the day for the Sagehens came at No. 3 with the team of Patria Aziz and Alex Coleman as they fell 8-3.
After taking a 2-1 lead, the Sagehens went on to sweep the singles matches 6-0. Zhou got the Sagehens going with a sweep at No. 3 singles as she won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. The Sagehens added another win at No. 5 singles with Janie Marcus defeating her opponent 6-0, 6-2 and Ye and Georgia Ryan earning wins by the scores of 6-1, 6-2.
Pomona-Pitzer ended the day with Georgia Ryan earning a win at No. 6 singles 6-1, 6-2 and capped off the win with Lyven at No. 1 who went three sets for the win, 6-3, 5-7, 10-2.
