CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 3 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team started off their spring break with an 8-1 win over No. 8 Sewanee on Monday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 7-1 overall.
The Sagehens started off with wins for two of three doubles matches against Sewanee with the only loss of the day coming at No. 2 doubles. Angie Zhou and Marissa Markey were slotted at No. 1 doubles for today and came away with an 8-3 win while Georgia Ryan and Janie Marcus earned an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.
Pomona-Pitzer went on to sweep the singles portion of the contest with Nina Ye coming away with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 followed by Markey at No. 3 with a 6-1, 7-5 win and her doubles partner, Zhou, clinching the win at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-2.
The Sagehens went on to win the final three matches of the day with Ryan at No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-2, Marcus at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-2 and the only three-set match of the day with Amelia Poor battling back for the win with scores of 2-6, 7-5, 10-3.
