Sagehens Sweep Tigers With Doubleheader Win

LOS ANGELES, CA. -- The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team completed their first SCIAC sweep of the season with a double header win over Occidental on Saturday afternoon at Andersen Field. 

Season Impact:  With the sweep, the Sagehens improve to 13-3 overall and 4-2 in SCIAC play.

Pomona-Pitzer 6, Occidental 1

The Sagehens were led by Isaac Kim who went 3-5 in the win with two RBI's and two runs scored. Brett Super got the win for the Sagehens on the mound as he went seven innings and only gave up one run while Eamon Woods came on in relief for two innings. 

Pomona-Pitzer did most of its damage via the long ball with four homeruns in the game accounting for six of their runs. Caleb Milikan got the scoring going in the first after an RBI single to right field put the Sagehens on top 1-0. 

The Sagehens then got the power bats going as Jackson Fleming hit a solo shot in the fourth followed by another solo homer by Isaac Kim in the sixth and then a two-run homer by Nate Jakobs in the sixth to put Pomona-Pitzer up 5-0.

Kim drove in his second run of the game in the seventh that came by way of a defensive miscue by the Tigers, but Occidental got the run back with their first run of the game in the bottom of the seventh to break up the shutout.

The Sagehens added two more in the top of the eighth with a two RBI single by Jimmy Legg, but the Tigers answered with two of their own in the bottom half of the inning to make it 8-3.  The Sagehens added some insurance runs in the top of the ninth as Ryan Nishi connected for his second homerun of the series as the Sagehens cruised to a victory in game one, 10-3 

Pomona-Pitzer 14, Occidental 5 

The Sagehens were led by Flemming and Legg who each notched four hits in the game with Jackson going 4-5 and Legg a perfect 4-4. JC Ng also had a monster RBI performance as he drove in six runs for the Sagehens in the win and had two homeruns including a grand slam. Jake Hilton got the start for the Sagehens and went 4.2 innings, but Eric Prough came in relief and picked up the win.

Pomona-Pitzer continued with the longball in game two against the Tigers after they hit four in game one, the Sagehens came back with eight in game two.

The Sagehens got the homerun parade going in the top of the first with a solo shot by David Bedrosian followed by another solo homerun by Fleming in the second to give the Sagehens a 2-0 lead.

Occidental came back and took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the firth after a single down the line and a three-run homer to put the Tigers up 5-2 over the Sagehens. 

Pomona-Pitzer responded with three homeruns in the top of the sixth. Fleming came back with his second homerun of the game while Ng hit a two-run shot to tie the game at 5-5 and Bedrosian capped off the inning with his second homer of the game to put the Sagehens back on top 6-5. 

The Sagehens added two more homeruns in the seventh with Ryan Nishi getting a solo homer and Jakobs hitting a two-run shot to extend the lead to 9-5. The Sagehens tacked on five more in the ninth after Legg singled home a run and Ng ended the game with a grand slam to end a big series sweep for the Sagehens.

Up Next: The Sagehens will next host MIT for a three-game series starting on Saturday, March 19th at 11:00 a.m.
