Sagehen Hitters Impress In Three-Game Sweep Over Lewis & Clark

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team opened up its 2022 season with a three-game series sweep over Lewis & Clark with a 10-7 and a 20-5 win in a double header at Alumni Field.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens start the year 3-0 overall.

The Sagehens were led by David Bedrosian who went 2-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Isaac Kim went 2-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored while Jimmy Legg also had a multi-hit game going 2-3 with a run scored in the win.

Jake Hilton got his first collegiate start and went four innings and gave up three runs with four strikeouts.  Eddie Rosemont came in relief to pick up the win while Eric Prough made his second appearance of the year to get the Sagehens out of a jam and Ethan Collins Closed out the game for the save. 

The Sagehens didn't waste any time getting the bats going as Bedrosian started his day with a three-run homer in the bottom of the first to give the Sagehens an early 3-0 lead. 

The Sagehens gifted a run in the top of the second off of a throwing error but got it back on a Kevin Lo fielder's choice to take a 4-1 lead. Lewis & Clark scored two runs in the fourth and fifth to take their first lead of day at 5-4, but it was short lived as Kim homered in the bottom of the fifth to reclaim the lead at 6-5. 

Matthew Nishimura added an RBI in the sixth along with another run off of an error by the Pioneer's defense as the Sagehens tacked on two more to push the lead to 8-5. The Pios got one back on an error in the seventh but returned the favor with an error of their own in the bottom half of the inning that plated another run for the Sagehens to make the score 9-6 Sagehens.  Jack Damelio drove home another runner with a sacrifice fly in the eighth and despite a solo shot by Lewis & Clark in the ninth, the Sagehens shut the door and took game one of the double header.

The Sagehens had multiple standout performances in their 20-run victory over Lewis & Clark but none better than the six RBI, 3-4 game by Kevin Lo highlighted by a grandslam in the win.

Brett Super got his first start of the year and picked up the win going six innings and gave up three hits, three runs and struckout seven. Enoch Kim and Stephan Kwak came in to relieve Super to close out the contest.

Despite losing the game by 15 runs, Lewis & Clark held the lead early on as they started out the game with a home run in the top of the second inning.

The Sagehens responded with RBIs from Jackson Fleming and Lo to take a 3-1 lead, but then tacked on eight runs in the third with home runs from Caleb Millikan and Lo and an RBI double from Fleming to take a commanding 11-1 lead.

The runs didn't stop there, the Sagehens continued to pile on with two in the fourth and six runs in the fifth inning to take a 19-2 lead.

The Pioneers scored two in the sixth and one in the eighth inning, but the Sagehen hitters would not be matched in game two of the double header as Pomona-Pitzer ended their first series of the year in a big way.
