CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team came away with a pair of 9-0 wins over Trinity and SCIAC opponent Occidental on Saturday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Courts.
Season Impact: with the wins, the Sagehens move to 3-0 to start the year and 1-0 in conference play.
Pomona-Pitzer 9, Trinity 0
The Sagehens started out the day taking all three doubles against the Tigers. Nina Ye and Maria Lyven took a win at No. 1 doubles 8-1 as well as Amelia Poor and Patria Aziz who also notched an 8-1 win at no. 3 doubles. The Sagehens had a close battle at No. 2 doubles but the team of Angie Zhou and Marissa Markey came out with the 8-6 victory.
The Sagehens went on to sweep the singles competition and didn't drop a single set. Lyven got her singles win at No. 1 singles 6-2,6-1 while Nina Ye didn't drop a game with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2. Zhou won 6-0 in the first set and then her opponent was retired to win at No. 3. Markey earned a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles while Georgia Ryan played singles at No. 4 and won 6-3, 6-0. The Sagehens ended the match with Poor coming away with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles as the Sagehens swept the No. 19 ranked Tigers.

The Sagehens took all three doubles to start their first SCIAC competition of the season. Ryan and Janie Marcus led off with a win at No.1 doubles 8-4 while Alex Coleman and Samantha Moore-Thomson won at No. 2 doubles 8-1 and Alicia Carmona Cornejo and Melisha Dogra won at No. 3, 8-0.
The Sagehens went on to win all six singles matches as well. Zhou earned a win at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-4 and Marcus doubled up on her wins with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles. Coleman earned a singles win at No. 3, 6-1, 6-4 while Carmona Cornejo got the 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles. The Sagehens made quick work at No. 5 and No. 6 singles as Moore-Thomson didn't drop a game at 6-0, 6-0 and Dogra drop one game with a 6-0, 6-1 win.
