Box Score REDLANDS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team opened up their SCIAC season with a 10-6 loss to Redlands on Friday afternoon at The Yard.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 9-2 overall on the year and start at 0-1 in conference play.
The Sagehens were led by Isaac Kim who went 3-5 on the day while Kevin Lo went 2-5, Jack Damelio went 2-3 and JC Ng went 1-3 with a three-run homer in the loss.
The Sagehens got out to a nice lead during their second time around the order as Kim got the scoring going in the top of the third with an RBI single followed by a three-run homer by Ng to put the Sagehens up 4-0.
Pomona-Pitzer added two more in their next at-bats as Damelio doubled to right center to bring in David Bedrosian and the Sagehens scored one more on an error by the second baseman to extend the lead to 6-0.
The Sagehens ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth as the Bulldogs started to put together some hits. After back-to-back RBI singles, Redlands added two more on an error and a sacrifice fly to cut the lead down to 6-4.
Redlands came back in their next at-bats and added three more from a sacrifice fly, an RBI triple and an RBI single to take the lead from the Sagehens at 7-6 after six innings of play. The Bulldogs scored for their third consecutive inning after a two-run homer extended their lead to 9-6 and then added another run in the bottom of the eighth to take a 10-6 lead into the Sagehens last chance to tie the game.
The Sagehens loaded the bases in the top of the ninth as they brought the tying run to the plate in the form of Ryan Nishi, but the Sagehens grounded into a double play to end the game as the Sagehens fell to Redlands in game one of their three-game series.
