CAMBRIDGE, MA. -- The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team went 0-2 on day two of the Harvard Invitational with an 11-10 loss to St. Francis and a 17-5 loss to Harvard on Sunday morning at Blodgett Pool.
Season Impact: With the losses, the Sagehens drop to 11-14 overall.
Pomona-Pitzer 10, St. Francis 11
The Sagehens were led by Maxim Koretsky who scored a hat-trick with three goals in the loss. Matija Jancic also had a multi-goal game with two while Sam Sasaki, Benjamin Sasaki, Nico Perna, Zachary Kaplan, and Conrad Hugar had one apiece.
Perna got the scoring going for the Sagehens in the first, but the Terriers scored the remaining two goals of the first to take a slight 2-1 lead over the Sagehens at the end of the first. Janic and Kaplan got the Sagehens even while a goal by Hugar gave the Sagehens the lead at 4-3 with two minutes left before halftime. The Sagehens failed to keep the lead before the break after the Terriers ended the first half with two goals to take a 5-4 lead.
Pomona-Pitzer got into trouble early in the third as St. Francis opened the second half with four-straight goals to take their largest lead of the game at 9-4. The Sagehens started to chip away at the lead and made a run late in the fourth to cut it down to two goals at 10-8 with 4:24 left to play, but the Terriers held off the Sagehens late in the game to come away with the one-goal win.
Pomona-Pitzer 5, Harvard 17
The Sagehens had five different goal scorers as Kyle Green, Sam Sasaki, Matija Jancic, Andrew Plashcke, and Jack Ryan all scored in the loss.
Harvard got the first three goals of the game until the Sagehens found the back of the net with 2:48 left in the first by Green to make it 3-1 in favor of the Crimson. Harvard went on a run and extended the lead to 9-1 before the Sagehens got their second goal of the game from Janic to face a 12-2 deficit heading into halftime.
Ryan netted a goal in the third quarter, but the Sagehens' offense had trouble keeping up with Harvard as they extended their lead to 16-3.
Pomona-Pitzer got a few goals to find the back of the net in the fourth as Sam Sasaki and Plaschke earned late goals, but the Sagehens ultimately fell to Harvard to end their northeast tournament trip.
