Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer men's water polo opened the 2026 campaign at the UCI Invitational Friday, falling 14-9 to No. 16 Loyola Marymount and 12-11 to Concordia Irvine. 
 
Sagehens 9, LMU 14
 
The Lions got out to a quick 3-0 lead before Miles Chiang found the back of the net twice to bring the Sagehens within a goal. LMU scored twice more before the end of the opening period, taking a 5-2 advantage. 
 
Zach Whitfield and Jaden Winters traded scores to open the second quarter before the Lions answered. Chase Barman then found the back of the net. LMU scored two more before Indigo Lee scored his first of the season. The Lions scored another pair before the end of the half, taking a 10-6 lead into the break. 
 
Ryan Kreutzkamp added a goal in a low-scoring third quarter. Whitfield and Dylan Bird each scored in the fourth, but LMU held on for the 14-9 win. 
 
Sagehens 11, CUI 12
 
The Golden Eagles scored the game's opening goal before Indigo Lee scored back-to-back goals to put the Sagehens on top. Another CUI goal tied things at 2-2 through one. Michael Soybel scored his first goal as a Sagehen to open the second, but the Golden Eagles answered with five straight to take a 7-3 advantage at the half. 
 
Teams traded goals to open the second half, with Soybel adding another before Indigo Lee and Jake Lee scored. John Shafer followed a CUI goal as Pomona-Pitzer trailed by just two, 10-8, heading into the final period. 
 
Winters and Alex Erickson opened the fourth with a goal each to tie the game at 10. CUI scored with 6:00 on the clock before Soybel completed his hat trick, tying things back at 11-11 with 5:19 remaining. Neither team managed to score until, with 0:56 to go, the Golden Eagles took the lead. The Sagehens couldn't quite capitalize in the final minute, eventually falling 12-11. 
 
Up Next: Pomona-Pitzer will take on UC Santa Barbara and UC Irvine next Saturday, Sept. 5, as part of the IE Classic on the campus of CMS.
