Box Score TACOMA, WA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team fell to non-conference opponent Puget Sound 72-54 on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Fieldhouse.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens end their Washington trip with a 1-1 overall record.
The Sagehens struggled from the field against the Loggers as they hit on 35.3% of their shots from the floor and were just 2-14 for 14.3% from three. Pomona-Pitzer was outrebounded 48-31 with Puget Sound pulling down 22 offensive rebounds and the Sagehens also led the turnover mark with 21 to Puget Sounds' 18.
The Sagehens had one player in double-digits as Amara Chidom led the way with 11 points and seven rebounds. Kayla Hankins and Madison Quan each had eight points while Vanessa Hsia came off the bench with seven.
How It Happened
Pomona-Pitzer held their own early on against the Loggers and even had the lead in the first quarter at 10-9 after a Quan three-pointer, but Puget Sound went on an 11-0 run to take a 20-10 lead with 1:20 left to go in the first. The Sagehens ended the first with the final five points of the quarter but trailed 20-15 to start the second.
Puget Sound continued to grow its lead into the second quarter and went up 33-19 with just under four minutes to play in the half. The Sagehens tried to close the gap late and chip away at the Logger's lead and trailed 41-30 at halftime.
After some halftime adjustments the Sagehens came out in the third and quickly got the deficit down to seven points at 41-34 after a jump shot by Kamil English, but the offense went cold midway through the third quarter and Puget Sound was able to reestablish their lead over the Sagehens and ended the third up 55-42.
Puget Sound started the fourth with a 9-0 run and took a 64-42 lead with 7:40 left to play and put the Sagehens in a tough position to try to mount a comeback. Pomona-Pitzer made up some ground late in the fourth but couldn't overcome the Logger's lead as they suffered their first loss of the season on the road.
