Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team defeated conference rival CMS 9-3 in a non-conference game on Monday afternoon at Alumni Field. With the win, the Sagehens improve to 10-5 overall.
The Sagehens were led by Seth Stone who went 3-3 with three RBI's in the win. The Sagehens had three players with three hits as the two, three and four hitters in the lineup with a combined 9-13 with five RBI's and five runs scored. Nolan McCafferty went 3-5 with three runs scored and Jeremy Jess went 3-5 with two RBI's and two runs scored.
Despite the big win, CMS actually jumped ahead early in the top of the second inning with an RBI single up the middle to play from in front 1-0.
The Sagehens answered with their first runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Stone singled up the middle to bring home the tying run and Ryan
Nishi followed up in the next at-bat with an RBI single to put the Sagehens on top 2-1.
After giving up the lead, CMS came back with one run off of an RBI double down the left field line to tie the game at 2-2 but the Sagehens reclaimed the lead again in the bottom half of the inning with RBI's from Jess and Stone to take a 4-2 lead after five innings of play.
CMS chipped away at the Sagehens' lead with one more in the top of the sixth but Pomona-Pitzer stayed on top 4-3. Pomona-Pitzer blew the game open in the bottom of the seventh as they plated five runs in the inning. Jess started the scoring with a double down the line followed by a sacrifice fly by Stone to give the Sagehens a 6-3 lead. Jake Patterson-Kohout then erased any chance of a comeback with a three-run bomb to center field to cap off the scoring at 9-3.
The Sagehens will next travel to Whittier for another non-conference game on Friday March 13th at 3:00 p.m.
