Women's Tennis: Sagehens Earn Double Header Win Over Cal State LA And Whittier

LOS ANGELES, CA. --  The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team opened up their spring schedule with a pair of wins as they defeated Cal State LA 4-0 and defeated Whittier 9-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens start the year 2-0.

Pomona-Pitzer 4, CSLA 0

The Sagehens played the division I clinch rule for their match against Cal State LA resulting in one point for all of the doubles matches.

The Sagehens took their first win of doubles play as the No. 2 Doubles team of Jay Kim and Maria Lyven came away with a 6-3 win and then the Sagehens clinched the doubled point at No. 1 as the first-year tam of Janie Marcus and Georgia Ryan ended with a 6-4 victory.

After earning the one point at doubles, the Sagehens needed just three singles matches to clinch the win.  Pomona-Pitzer won the top-three matches for singles competition as Lyven started with a win at No. 1 by the scores of 6-1, 6-0.  Ryan got a win at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2 and Marcus finished the day with a win at No. 3 with a 6-0, 6-3 victory.

Pomona-Pitzer 9, Whittier 0

The Sagehens also earned their first SCIAC win of the season with a 9-0 sweep over Whittier.

Pomona-Pitzer started with all three doubles points to begin the match. Lyven and Kim started out the match with a clean 8-0 win at No. 1 followed by Marcus and Ryan who also earned an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles.  The Sagehens ended doubles with a win at No. 3 doubles as Yurie Heard and Melisha Dogra earned an 8-1 win.

The Sagehens picked up right where they left off into singles play as Lyven got a win at No. 1, 6-0, 6-0 and Marcus followed with the clinch after a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles.

Kim went on to win her singles match at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0 and Dogra won her singles match 6-1, 6-0. The Sagehens ended the day with wins at No. 4 and 3 as Rebecca Salaway earned a 6-1, 6-0 win and Ryan ended the day with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
