NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. -- The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team fell in the Semifinals of the ITA Indoor National Championships to No. 2 Emory 8-1 on Saturday afternoon at Top Seed tennis Club.
With the loss, the Sagehens drop to 4-1 overall and will play in the third place match against Carnegie Mellon.
The Sagehens dropped all three of the doubles matches to start the day as Janie Marcus and Georgia Ryan fell at No. 1 doubles 8-3 followed by a loss at No. 2 doubles with Jay Kim and Maria Lyven losing 8-4 and a hard fought loss at No. 3 doubles with Yurie Heard and Rebecca Salaway dropping their match 8-7.
The Sagehens would go on to win just one singles match against the Eagles with Ryan earning a win at No. 2 singles by the scores of 2-6, 6-2, 1-0. The Sagehens lost at No. 1 singles with Lyven falling 6-3, 6-2 and at No. 3 with Marcus falling 6-3, 2-6, 0-1. Emory went on to win at No. 4 singles with Salaway losing 6-1, 6-1, Jacinta Chen dropping her match at No. 5 singles 6-4, 6-1 and Kim losing her match at No. 6-3, 6-1.
The Sagehens will next play in the third place match against Carnegie Mellon on Sunday, March 1st at 9:00 a.m.
