NICHOLASVILLE, KY. -- The No. 5 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team opened up the 2020 ITA Indoor National Championship with a 7-2 win against No. 9 MIT on Friday morning in the Semifinal round.
With the win, the Sagehens improve to 4-0 overall and advance to the Semifinals of the ITA Indoor National Championships.
The Sagehens took the first doubles match of the competition at No. 2 doubles as the team of Maria Lyven and Jay Kim battled out an 8-6 win. The Sagehens followed up with a win at No. 1 doubles with Georgia Ryan and Janie Marcus edging out an 8-7 win to give the Sagehens a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
Georgia Ryan got the first win of the day for the Sagehens in the singles competition with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles followed by wins at No. 3 and No. 6 singles as Marcus doubled up with a win in her singles match 7-5, 7-6 and Kim won her singles match 6-4, 6-2.
The Sagehens ended the day with wins at No. 4 singles with Rebecca Salaway earning a pair of 7-5 wins and Lyven took the No. 1 singles match with a 6-3, 7-5 victory.
The Sagehens will next advance to the Semifinals where they will take on Emory on Saturday, February 29th at 1:00 p.m. EST ( 10:00 a.m. PST)
