LOS ANGELES, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team came away with 9-0 sweep over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Occidental on Saturday morning at the Mckinnon Family Tennis Center.
With the win, the Sagehens improve to 3-0 to start the season and 2-0 in SCIAC matches.
The Sagehens started out sweeping the doubles competition with a perfect 3-0 record against the Tigers. Georgia Ryan and Janie Marcus got a win in the No. 1 doubles match with an 8-3 win followed by a win at No. 2 doubles as Maria Lyven and Jay Kim beat their opponents 8-3 as well. The Sagehens ended doubles with a win at No. 3 doubles as Rebecca Salaway and Yurie Heard earned an 8-2 win.
After taking all three doubles matches, the Sagehens continued their good play with a clean sweep of the singles matches. Kim started out the singles matches with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles followed by a 6-0, 6-0 win for Salaway at No. 4 singles and a 6-0, 6-1 win by Ryan at No. 2 singles.
The Sagehens continued their dominance as Lyven, Ryan and Jacinta Chen all ended with singles wins as the Sagehens stay perfect on the season.
Pomona-Pitzer will next head to the ITA Indoor National Championships where they will face MIT on Friday, February 28th at 10:00 a.m.
