CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team fell in the NCAA Regional Final 5-1 to CMS on Sunday afternoon at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens end the year at 16-6 overall.
The Sagehens got behind in doubles after only taking one of the three doubles matches. The Sagehens fell at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles as the teams Rebecca Salaway and Margheritta Andreassi and Caroline Casper and Jay Kim both fell by the score of 8-5. Pomona-Pitzer got a point at No. 1 doubles as Maria Lyven and Arianna Chen earned an 8-5 win as the Sagehens went into singles down 2-1.
CMS went on to take the first three singles matches to clinch 5-1 with wins at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6. Jacinta Chen fell at No. 4 singles by the scores of 6-2, 6-0, Lucy Jiang lost her match at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-3 and Salaway fell at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-2.
Three matches remained unfinished with Casper down 0-6, 5-6 at No. 1 singles, Lyven up 7-5, 1-0 and Arianna Chen down 2-6, 2-5.
The Sagehens ended their team season with the loss to CMS and will have individuals compete at the NCAA Tournament.
