Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Chapman 9-6 on Friday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 17-16 overall and 7-15 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by first-year Jack Damelio who went 4-6 in the loss with two runs scored.
Chapman scored in their first at-bats as one swing of the bat plated two runners to play in front with a 2-0 lead. The Sagehens came back with one run in the third after junior Jeremy Jess doubled home Damelio and then two more in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead after junior Jack Hanley doubled in a run and first-year Kevin Lo tallied a sacrifice fly.
After the first inning, the Sagehens settled down and kept the Panthers off of the board early in the game, but ran into some trouble in the fifth and sixth inning as Chapman plated seven runs over the two inning to take a 9-3 lead.
The Sagehens got a few back in the bottom half of the sixth after RBIs from junior Nolan McCafferty and sophomore Jake Patterson-Kohout, but could not answer with any more runs late in the game as the Sagehens suffered a loss on their last home game of the season.
