CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 4 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis Team endured a tough battle against No. 6 Middlebury College, but came up short as they fell 5-4 on Wednesday night. Despite dropping two of three matches in doubles, the Sagehens came back to even the score through singles. The match came down to a decider between Maria Lyven and Heather Boehm in no. 2 singles, but the Middlebury junior prevailed in three sets (4-6, 6-2, 3-6).

Caroline Casper and Jay Kim prevailed in their no. 3 doubles match against Christina Puccinelli and Emily Bian 8-4 to get the Sagehens their first point, but Arianna Chen and Lucy Jiang fell in no. 2 doubles to Ann Martin Skelly and Heather Boehm 8-6 as Middlebury evened the score. The Panthers went on to win no. 1 doubles as Heather Boehm and Ann Martin Skelly defeated Arianna Chen and Lucy Jiang 8-6.

In no. 1 singles, Casper went on to beat Katy Hughes at ease with a pair of 6-2 sets while Rebecca Salaway took down Emma Gorman 6-1 and 6-2 to give Pomona-Pitzer the 3-2 lead. Lucy Jiang extended the lead with a tough 7-6 (4) and 6-2 win over Maddi Stow in no. 5 singles. However, the Panthers pushed back as Christina Puccinelli defeated Arianna Chen in no. 3 singles with a pair of 6-3 sets and Margherita Andreassi fell in no. 4 to Skyler Schossberger 6-2 and 6-4. With the score tied at 4-4, the Panthers edged out the Sagehens after their victory in no. 2 singles.
