Baseball: Sagehens Plate 17 In Comeback Win Over MIT

Box Score

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team defeated non-conference opponent MIT 17-6 on Monday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 14-6 overall.

The Sagehens were led by sophomore Jake Patterson-Kohout who went 4-6 with one run and one RBI in the win.

The Engineers got on first as they opened up the second inning with three runs to take an early 3-0. The Sagehens responded with two runs after first-year Jack Damelio and junior Brian Knapp earned RBIs to cut the lead down to one at 3-2.

MIT plated three more runs in the top of the fourth to extend its lead to 6-2 but that would be the only other runs that the Engineers could work up against the Sagehens.

Pomona-Pitzer began its comeback in the bottom of the fifth. The Sagehens took over the lead with five runs in the inning. After MIT walked the bases loaded, a hit by pitch and a sacrifice fly brought in the first two runs of the inning before Knapp cleared the bases with a three RBI double to take a 7-6 lead.

The Sagehens got after the MIT bullpen as they came back for three more runs in the bottom of the seventh after back-to-back RBIs from McCafferty and junior Jeremiah Quezada and then put up a seven run eighth inning as Pomona-Pitzer finished off the Engineers at home.

Up Next: The Sagehens will next host SCIAC opponent Redlands on Friday, March 9th at 3:00 p.m.
