Men's Tennis: No. 14 Sagehens Come Up Just Short Against No. 5 Williams, 5-4

CLAREMONT, CA. --  The No. 14 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team fell to No. 5 Williams college 5-4 on Friday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.

Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens fall to 8-7 overall this season.

The Sagehens fell behind the Ephs after only winning one of the doubles matches to start the day. Williams got a win at No. 3 doubles 8-2 and at No. 1 doubles 8-5, but the Sagehens earned a win at No. 2 with the team of Avery Bicks and Charlie Stark earning an 8-4 win to trail 2-1 heading into singles.

The Ephs did their damage at the bottom of the singles order as they took wins at No. 4, 5 and 6 while the Sagehens earned wins at 1, 2 and 3.  Williams first earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles and followed up with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4 and clinched at the No. 6 singles match with a 6-2, 6-2 win.

Pomona-Pitzer got their first singles win at No. 1 with Kronenberg winning a three-set battle. Kronenberg won the first set 7-5 but fell in set two 6-1. He then came back to win set three 12-10 to earn the point. Josh Gearou followed up with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 2 and Octave Bellet held off his opponent at No. 3 to win by the scores 7-6, 7-5.
