CLAREMONT, CA. – After battling out through a tough four-hour marathon, the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Team were dealt a tough 8-1 defeat to No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps after a series of close matches that could have gone either direction. After salvaging one point from doubles, the Sagehens were swept in singles despite going to three sets in four of the matches.

Season Impact: The Sagehens fall to a 9-6 record overall and 3-1 in the SCIAC.

Shivani Doraiswami and Emily Chen fell in no. 2 doubles to Cat Allen and Caroline Cox 8-2, but Arianna Chen and Maryann Zhao took a point back after beating Lindsay Brown and Nicole Tan in no. 1 doubles 8-6. In no. 3 doubles, Summer Garrison and Caroline Gasper kept it close but couldn't get ahead as they fell to Kyla Scott and Juliette Martin 8-6.

Casper dropped the first set 7-6 in no. 1 singles against Nicole Tan but took set two 6-4. In the third set, Tan came out on top 10-8. Maryann Zhao had a close battle with Allen in no. 2 singles, taking the first set 6-3. However, Allen came back in the last two sets 6-3 and 10-3. Over in no. 3, Garrison fell to Lindsay Brown 6-3 and 6-1 while Arianna Chen dropped no. 6 singles to Cox 6-4 and 6-2. Doraiswami battled with Scott in no. 4, dropping the first set 6-4 and coming back in the second set 6-4. Scott took the match with a 6-3 win in the third set. Emily Chen also had a three-set thriller, coming back from a 6-3 loss in the first set with a 7-5 win in the second. Unfortunately, she dropped the final set 6-2.
